Resource Management Guide
Advanced resource management separates good players from great ones. Once your mines are running and your first fleet is built, the next layer of skill is optimizing how resources flow through your empire — minimizing waste, maximizing throughput, and never letting bottlenecks slow you down.
The three resource bottlenecks
At different stages of the game, each resource becomes the constraint:
Early game — Metal bottleneck: almost every early building costs primarily Metal. Keep the Metal Mine consistently ahead of Crystal and Deuterium mines.
Mid game — Crystal bottleneck: research costs escalate fast and Crystal-heavy. Hyperspace Technology, Weapons Tech, and advanced ships all eat Crystal. Your Crystal Mine will lag behind demand if you don't actively push it.
Late game — Deuterium bottleneck: large fleets on long missions burn enormous amounts of Deuterium. A 1,000 Battleship fleet sent across three galaxies can consume millions of Deuterium in a single mission. Late-game players often run multiple high-level Deuterium Synthesizers on cold planets specifically to feed fleet operations.
Identify your current bottleneck and prioritize upgrading the mine producing it. Don't upgrade Metal Mine 20 when Crystal is the thing stopping you from building the next ship class.
Storage math — the offline calculation
The most common resource waste in the game is storage overflow. The calculation is straightforward:
Hours offline × hourly production = resources generated while away
If resources generated > current storage capacity → overflow
Example: Metal Mine producing 500,000/hour, going offline 10 hours, current Metal Storage capacity 3,000,000. 500,000 × 10 = 5,000,000 needed capacity. 3,000,000 < 5,000,000 → overflow of 2,000,000 Metal wasted.
Fix: either upgrade Metal Storage before logging off, or queue enough builds to consume the excess before storage fills.
The queue drain trick: if you queue a large building upgrade that costs 4,000,000 Metal before going offline, those resources are immediately deducted and committed to the build. Your effective storage headroom expands by the build cost. Queue as many builds as possible before long offline sessions.
The trader — when and how to use it
The in-game Trader allows resource exchange at fluctuating daily rates. Use it strategically:
Best use cases:
- You need Crystal for a specific research project but have Metal surplus → trade Metal for Crystal
- You have a Deuterium surplus from cold-planet Synthesizers → sell Deuterium for Metal or Crystal
- Before a major ship build that costs primarily one resource → consolidate your stockpile into that resource
What to avoid:
- Trading at unfavorable rates when you could just wait for mines to produce
- Over-relying on the Trader instead of upgrading the deficient mine
- Trading away resources you'll need for fleet fuel (Deuterium)
Check rates daily. The Trader's exchange rate fluctuates and the best rate day can be 20–30% better than a poor rate day. For large trades this difference matters.
Multi-planet resource flow
Once you have colonies, resource logistics becomes its own discipline:
Specialization strategy: not every planet needs a balanced mine setup. Consider:
- A Metal/Crystal world with high-level mines on an average-temperature planet
- A Deuterium world on the coldest planet you can find (temperature strongly affects Deuterium output)
- A shipyard world with maxed Robotics + Nanite Factory that receives resources from other planets to build ships
Transport logistics: Large Cargos running regular routes between planets cost Deuterium in fuel. Calculate whether the specialization gain outweighs the transport cost. At high mine levels the gain easily justifies it — at low levels it may not.
Resource concentration before major builds: before constructing an expensive ship class or completing a high-level tech, consolidate resources from all your planets onto the build planet in advance. Don't discover you're 500,000 Crystal short mid-build.
Raiding as production supplement
Even at high mine levels, active raiding can double or triple your effective resource income. The math is simple: every unit raided is a unit you didn't have to mine, with zero opportunity cost from field slots or energy.
Build a farming list of 10–20 inactive or low-defense planets and hit them in rotation. The interval between hits should match how long their mines take to refill to raid-worthy levels.

Resource security — don't be the target
Accumulated resources are a liability as much as an asset. Every unit sitting in storage is a unit someone else wants to take.
Defense rule of thumb: your defense strength should roughly scale with your resource production rate. A planet producing 1,000,000 resources per hour needs enough defense to make raiding it cost more than the loot is worth.
Spend into builds, not storage. The safest resource is one already committed to a build queue. Idle resources in storage invite attacks. Active resource cycling — always building something — naturally reduces your exposed stockpile.
